Computer Information Technology (freshmen and sophomores)

This is an academy introductory course that exposes students to many aspects of computing.  It includes web page design and development through the use of the scripting languages HTML and JavaScript, use and understanding of internet email and the World Wide Web and the use of office applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, databases and presentation tools.  The continued emphasis and development of student employability skills throughout the course using the SCANS model and an opportunity to research information technology careers are featured.

Systems Support (sophomores, juniors, seniors) Prerequisite:  CIT

This course is intended for students who are interested in learning computer operations and software applications.  Students learn the functionality of hardware and software components as well as suggested best practices in maintenance and safety issues.  Through hands-on activities and labs, students will learn  to assemble and configure a computer, install operating systems and software, and troubleshoot hardware and software problems.  They will also apply keyboarding skills as well as word processing, database, spreadsheet and desktop presentation applications to manage and complete authentic, office-related tasks.  Workplace employability skills will be emphasized.

Advanced Word Processing (1 semester) (juniors, seniors)

Students will be exposed to more advanced word processing skills including continued work on improved keyboarding skills.  Mail merge, advanced tables, Desk top publishing, research reports are all emphasized.  Word 2000 is the current application used
