Technology Saturdays

The Washington High School National Academy of Information Technology hosts a series of two hands-on sessions to introduce students to some of the technologies that students in our academy explore. A session aimed at current 8th graders is held in early Fall and a session aimed at current 7th graders is held in early Spring. Dates for the Spring, 2003 session for 7th graders will be March 15 and March 22.

Participants have a chance to work with students and teachers who use these technologies. The first session focuses on electronic publishing, and the second session focuses on networking and programming. Students will also meet one or more computer technology professionals each session. A light breakfast snack (sweet rolls, milk, juice) will be provided.

Here's a preview of each session:

Focus on Electronic Publishing

    • learn how to digitize photos you bring
    • learn to use digital cameras and libraries of clip art
    • learn how to use the Internet to obtain information to publish
    • learn how to create documents using your own photographs and pictures
    • learn how to convert your document to a simple web page

Focus on Networking and Programming

Networking
    • learn how networks are put together
    • learn how computers are connected to networks
    • learn what computer repair technicians do
    • learn about some courses that can help prepare you for a career

    • learn how computers use programs to control all aspects of their use from games to cars to getting paid
