Washington High School's Academy
of Hospitality and Tourism
(AOHT)
Program Description: Washington
High School in cooperation with the National Academy Foundation introduces
students to
careers in the field of travel and tourism.
Labor statistics predict that employment in tourism and hospitality
will rise to 12.3 million people by 2000. Career academy courses in
grades 10-12 will be infused with technology and integrated with academic
courses through project-based learning activities and direct involvement
with travel and tourism professionals. A key feature of the
academy is a supervised, paid internship during the summer after the
student's junior year, bringing exposure to the many facets of the
industry-real experiences that require problem solving and critical
thinking skills that students can add to career portfolios.
