The vision
of the Freshman Success Academy is to provide a nurturing environment
which builds a foundation for future success and fosters academic
and personal growth.
What
we're about...
The Freshman
Success Academy (FSA) is a school within a school located on
the 3rd floor of WHS. Washington's FSA is specifically designed
to:
- emphasize
the importance of getting a good start in high school.
- assist
all incoming 9th graders with the transition from middle school
to the more rigorous and demanding high school experience.
- place
students into support teams with four academic teachers and
operate on a block schedule.
- give
academy teachers the opportunity to get to know their students
and develop a mentor relationship with them.
What
you can expect...
- The Academy
encourages students to strive for academic excellence through
a variety of innovative and researched-based strategies
- Mentoring
by academically successful upper class students is a key element
in providing positive role models.
- Integrated
into the entire yearlong experience are opportunities for
students to explore the five career academies offered during
their sophomore, junior, and senior years.
- Each
student will make a career academy choice at the end of the
freshman year.
