Social Studies Department

The Social Studies Department offers several basic courses required by state law for graduation from public high schools.  Citizenship is generally offered in the ninth grade. For sophomores the two world culture courses offered are World History and World Geography. Juniors generally are required to take United States History.

Advanced level classes (P.A.T or A.P.) are also available in World History and United States History.

Classes offered as electives include African History , Sociology, Economics, and Psychology. These are usually offered to seniors.

Most classes make extensive use of the computer technology available at Washington High School. Research and presentations make use of the Internet and various presentation software programs such as ClarisWorks Slideshow and PowerPoint.
