| The
Social Studies Department offers several basic courses required
by state law for graduation from public high schools. Citizenship
is generally offered in the ninth grade. For sophomores the
two world culture courses offered are World History and World
Geography. Juniors generally are required to take United States
History.
Advanced
level classes (P.A.T or A.P.) are also available in World History
and United States History.
Classes
offered as electives include African History , Sociology, Economics,
and Psychology. These are usually offered to seniors.
Most classes
make extensive use of the computer technology available at Washington
High School. Research and presentations make use of the Internet
and various presentation software programs such as ClarisWorks
Slideshow and PowerPoint.
