Jeffery's Reflection Washington was not my first choice for high school coming out of the eighth grade, but with the Information Techonology field booming, my mom knew exactly what was best for me. I was put on the early admissions list for Washington. I had no idea how much fun I would have and how much I would learn.
Those yellow identification cards: faint memories of my freshmen year. In order to identify a freshmen, ninth graders were tagged with bright yellow id badges. That darn third floor: In attempt to slowly adjust ninth graders to high school life, the administration at Washington implemented the Freshman Success Academy. Every core class for the freshmen was held on this floor except for electives. Of course I hated it, but I really believe that it helped me. I was able to successfully adjust to High School scene without being negatively influenced by upper classmen. In the process, we all became like one big family and that's why our senior class is rewriting history now. Finally, those academics. Before the class of 2003, there was only the Computer Specialty Program, which my mom knew so much of. But with students leaving High School with no sense of direction, the staff at Washington teamed together to form the Academies. The Computer Speicialty Program label was long gone and it gives way to the more efficient name of "Academy of Information Technology". Along with the Academy came the dismissal of computer some aged programs, which were obsolete after the year 2000. Washington gave up their ancient Cobalt, and BASIC programming classes and switched to the more functional and resourceful HTML, SQL, and Java languages. My class was caught right in the transition, so I ended up having BASIC my freshman and sophomore year. My junior and senior years consisted of the newer SQL, HTML, and Java languages. I was lucky to have been able to experience both. In all, my years in the AOIT where some of my best years in my life, and most important of all, I was able to decipher my goals and finally decide on a projected career. Thanks AOIT and no I won't forget about any of you! Back By: Jeffery
