Washington High School's Academy
of Hospitality and Tourism
(AOHT)


Program Description:
Washington High School in cooperation with the National Academy Foundation introduces students to
careers in the field of travel and tourism.

Labor statistics predict that employment in tourism and hospitality will rise to 12.3 million people by 2000. Career academy courses in grades 10-12 will be infused with technology and integrated with academic courses through project-based learning activities and direct involvement with travel and tourism professionals.  A key feature of the academy is a supervised, paid internship during the summer after the student's junior year, bringing exposure to the many facets of the industry-real experiences that require problem solving and critical thinking skills that students can add to career portfolios.

Certification Expectations

  • Exceptional school attendance
  • Maintain at least a 2.0 grade point average
