Washington
High is structured into three autonomous schools serving students
in grades 9 through 12. These schools include the School of
Information Technology, the School of Law, Education and Public
Service, and the School of Expeditionary Learning and Outward
Bound. The curricula for each is intended to challenge students
at a variety of levels and includes a component requiring
students to take courses at the university level during their
senior year.
The
restructuring of our comprehensive high school is a natural
movement from our successful academy programs. Students who
were involved in our academy programs were demonstrating success
in high school and beyond. Our staff's experience with the
small school concept provides a solid foundation for the development
of our small schools. Washington's teachers are engaged and
leading the change process at our school.
Washington
HS is a technology-rich environment (about 3 students per
machine). However, number of machines along does not ensure
success. The program at Washington incorporates a full range
of academic and elective subjects where students learn with
and about technology; involves students in excellent extra-curricular
activities including our well-known sports program and speech/debate
team; encourages students with tremendous scholarship support
from the Washington HS Alumni Foundation.
At
WHS you'll find a rich environment with students from 14 different
countries, a strong academic program several aspects of which
are nationally recognized, strong community connections through
partnerships with several dozen area businesses.
All
this is consistent with our Mission Statement: In partnership
with the community, Washington High School fosters strong
academic and character development of youth.
