STEP-UP Program
School To Employment Program - Upward Progress

The STEP-UP Program at Washington HS helps students outline and navigate a career map for their future. This is achieved by first assessing our students and their job readiness. For the incoming freshmen, STEP-UP, along with the Milwaukee Career Center, administers the Discover Program, which is a career and interest inventory. Once job readiness skills have been mastered, the program then provides job referrals in both the private and public sectors.

The job readiness training, based on the SCANS skills which are part of the Academy curricula at WHS, helps students develop "softskills" such as task planning and completion, teamwork, interviewing skills and other workplace skills, how to accurately complete a job application, and how to develop a resume.

The Washington High School STEP-UP program was instrumental in 150 students securing part-time employment in the private sector and over 50 employed in the public sector during the 2001-2002 school year.
