Student Government
The WHS Student Government is the largest and most active student organization in the school. Composed of representatives from all homerooms, clubs, and organizations, Student Government strives to foster student ownership of their school and activities, with all resultant benefits thereof. A key element in the success of this goal is the Washington High School tradition of involving key constituencies within the school in policy decisions.
A fundamental tenet of Student Government is that strong student leadership can bring together diverse populations so that all work together toward the goal of improving the educational and social climate of the school. Paramount in this process is the continual "growing" of new leaders to replace those moving on to leadership positions in the community upon their graduation.
The organization is known nationwide for its strong programs and has proven over time to be an effective tool for marketing the greatness of the school's student body. Clearly, Student Government is an integral part of the culture of WHS, providing students with an opportunity to work for positive change, while honing their skills as they strive to become the community leaders of tomorrow.
