UW-Stevens Point Undergraduate Education Majors Visit
October 10, 2002
Reactions

A group of about 25 undergraduate education majors from UW-Stevens Point visited Washington High School on October 10, 2002. These prospective teachers visited many classroom all around the school. What follows is a sampling of their reactions to what they saw. We think you'll enjoy their comments.

  • The teachers care. They really understand what the students need and are working hard to get them there.
  • The school works as a community and has positive energy. The staff is working to help rid the school of negative influences.
  • Capt. Martin was a really fantastic person to talk to. He really embodies what a teacher needs to be at Washington or anywhere.
  • It seemed that there was more respect in the ROTC program.
  • The locked doors made everything more secure and gave students less opportunity to mess around.
  • I really enjoyed having the chance to talk to teachers; they had a lot to say. The teachers seem to push the students to do well. They have many different ideas/ways of approaching students.
  • There is love in the air.
  • There's a great deal of technology, and it seems that it is well kept. Many schools have technology, but fail to keep it updated.
  • Academy structure is a wonderful idea because it gives a student a path to follow for a possible career. I wish we had something at my high school like this, because I think some people could have a better path with this system
  • Each student addressed me as "Ms" and I thought that was very respectful, even though I wasn't a real teacher.
  • The teachers were very enthusiastic about students and programs offered at the school. They were more than willing to answer questions and work with students, not just academically, but socially.
  • Excellent School!
  • I am a graduate of Vincent High School, and I am excited about the positive changes and happenings in Milwaukee Public Schools.
  • Myron Strong was a very enthusiastic teacher. He related lessons to everyday life and students really got into it.
  • Freda Bell was very enthusiastic. She made learning fun. The students really liked her.
  • The teachers seemed happy to have us visit.
  • The way the teachers handled the students was really amazing. All the students were really friendly. I really enjoyed my experience!!
  • I really enjoyed watching the student-teacher dynamics. Watching how the teachers managed their classrooms and went through the class materials was really helpful to me as a future teacher.
  • I found that the teachers were all very patient. The students weren't always cooperative, but the teachers didn't give up. That has to be the most challenging aspect of the job.
  • The teachers seemed to make a point to become the students' friend while maintaining control and respect.
  • Very polite staff and students able to handle many different types of students and situations. Interesting academy structure, pushes students to become successful. Everyone is very outgoing!
  • I had a great time, and this was an awesome experience!
  • The staff here is excellent. They have inspired me to do the best I can and reach out to students.
  • I had a great time and was really surprised by the atmosphere at Milwaukee Washington. It was friendly and the fears I felt at the beginning of the day quickly disappeared. Thank you!
  • The teachers were very enthusiastic. They seemed very excited and happy at their jobs; the students have fun here. The academy structure is a wonderful idea. I've never seen this before. It's great. The students seem very energetic and positive.
