Current Activities:
- President of the SIGCT (Special Interest Group for Computing
Teachers) within ISTE (International Society of Technology Education).
Recently we've been refocusing our efforts toward a K-12 Computer Science
organization and working on a collaboration with other ISTE SIGs and with
ACM/CSTA (Computing Science Teachers Association).
- Participating on a CSTA committee to create Professional Development opportunities
for teachers teaching computer science during the first few years of high
school and a CSTA committee to develop a web repository of computer science
materials for K-12.
- Involved on a selection committee for computer science sessions held at
ISTE's NECC (National Educational Computing Conference) for 2004-2006.
- Involved with Milwaukee's MTECH and the development of a Tech Support team
for MPS schools.
- Technical Coordinator at John Marshall HS Campus.
- Involved with MPS sySTEM committee and MPS Advisory Board development

Recent APCS activities:
- Consulting for Kettle Moraine HS, Oconomowoc HS, Milwaukee
Washington HS, Lyons Township (IL) HS and Bellevue (WA) School District.
- Created a design unit on Money and Fractions for APCS Staff Development
book
- Written several articles for APCentral on teaching APCS A and AB as well
as development of business advisory teams for HS programs including securing
additional funding.
- National grading in a leadership position for the APCS Free Response questions
(22nd year)
- Speaking about high school experiences in APCS with the Chief Reader of
APCS at the MICS college conference in Iowa (April, 2006)
- Speaking at Annual Meetings of Wisconsin Mathematics Council on topics
including object-oriented design and other topics related to APCS.
I am involved professionally outside of
school:
- worked on the MPS High School Redesign Committee
- in June, 2002, completed a 4-year appointment to the AP CS National Development
Committee
- taught a totally web-based teacher workshop on the new APCS Marine Biology
Case Study along with Prof. Chris Nevison at Colgate University
- taught a UWM course entitled The Teaching of Computer Science (1986-2003)
- involved in the core committee which developed the MPS Technology Strategic
Plan
- wrote large segments of the basic Let's Explore the Internet course for
MPS
- regularly ran the 3-hour MPS Internet Workshops
- regularly speak on computer science topics at meetings of the Wisconsin
Math Council and other technology groups
- continue to do several one-day College Board workshops each year
- the treasurer of the Wisconsin Math Council from 1980-2004
I have lots of other outside activities,
too!
